Sometimes, as children of God, we go through life in a sad and unhappy state. We allow our problems and challenges to engulf and overwhelm us and we have no joy in our lives. God wants us to be happy and it's easy if we reflect on the wonderful things He's done for us over the years and if we also learn to enjoy the simple pleasures that life offers us.
For instance, there's joy in having a child or grandchild run up to you with outstretched arms, unabashed emotion and express his love for you. We can be happy when gazing at a beautiful sunrise or sunset, receiving a smile from a total stranger or when we, in turn, show love, kindness and compassion to someone. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 tells us to always be joyful. When we love and worship God and focus on His goodness, we can't help but be happy. Our joy comes from Him and it should be visible in our demeanour and actions.
Thank you Lord for Your joy. Help me to be joyful, to relish and appreciate the little things in life, to open my eyes to the unexpected and joyful moments around me and to do whatever I can to bring happiness to others. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
