Bible Verse for May 9th.

But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit, if you have the Spirit of God living in you.

Romans 8:9

We cannot please God if we are controlled by our sinful nature. As believers, we need to have the Spirit of God dwelling in us and controlling our thoughts and actions. When God's Spirit is in us, we have the power to resist giving in to temptation. If we give our sinful nature free reign in our lives, it becomes easy to succumb to old, destructive habits and fleshly desires that could lead us on a path of self destruction, spiritual decline and alienation from God.

When the Spirit of God dwells in us, it is evident in the way we live. Our only desire is to please God in all that we do. It's an ongoing process that involves daily surrender, fellowship and communion with our Heavenly Father. If we neglect to do this, we leave room in our lives for that sinful nature to creep in and take us down the slippery slope of destruction. We need to recognize that the Holy Spirit has the power to change us and to help us to live victorious Christian lives and because of this, our sinful nature no longer has a hold on us.

Thank you Lord for Your Holy Spirit that dwells in me. Help me to never allow my sinful nature to control my thoughts and actions. Let Your Holy Spirit change me and fill me with power to resist the wiles of the enemy. I surrender my life to You. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
