Bible Verse for January 14th.

"Honour your father and mother." This is the first commandment with a promise. If you
honour your father and mother," things will go well for you, and you will have a long life
on the earth."
Ephesians 6:2-3
NLT Bible

This is a commandment with a great promise. If we honour and respect our parents, God
has promised that things will go well for us and we will have a long life here on earth.
Many of us have witnessed children, both young and old, being disrespectful to their
parents, with no regard for their feelings and we probably cringed inwardly, with some
anger and sadness at such blatant disrespect. Looking around, we sometimes see adult
children who can't even be bothered with their elderly parents. They have neither the time
nor patience for them. However, it's worth remembering that we are all growing older
and may face the same situation one day. Some of us may have lost our parents, but we
cherish the wonderful memories of times spent with them and feel blessed to know that
while they were with us, we loved, honoured and respected them.
How do we honour our parents? It's easy... We respect and cherish them, treat them with
dignity and kindness, listen to them, let them know that they matter to us and above all,
we love them. We may not always agree with them, but we can still respect their point of
view. Honouring our parents gives glory to God and He blesses us when we do.
Thank you Lord for my parents. Help me to honour and respect them. Even when we
don't see 'eye to eye', let me be respectful and kind. Lord, You have promised that when I
do this I will have a long life and that things will go well for me. I claim this promise
Lord, and with Your help, I will always cherish and esteem my parents. I love you, Jesus.
Amen!

Be Blessed,
Lydia
