Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
James 1:19
NIV Bible
Almost everyone can admit failure in adhering to the commands outlined in this verse. So many times, we become impatient when someone is speaking to us when all they really need is for us to listen, to really hear them and validate their feelings. We need to focus on what is being said, try to understand and then speak. When we do, it's easier for words of wisdom, empathy and encouragement to flow from our lips.
Lastly and of utmost importance, we need to be slow in becoming angry. We all get angry at times but anger doesn't make anything better. If anything, it serves as fuel and only escalates the situation. If we obey the first two commands, then it's hardly likely that we'll become angry. As followers of God, this verse should challenge us to live as God would have us to.
Thank you Lord for loving me. Help me to be quick to listen, to think before speaking and to avoid anger. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
