Can a man scoop a flame into his lap and not have his clothes catch on fire?
Proverbs 6:27
NLT Bible
We all know people who love the thrill of living dangerously, doing things that are wrong and harmful. In its original context, this verse speaks to the consequences of unfaithfulness and sexual sin, but it's also applicable to the sinful things we dabble in and the effect it has on our lives. In the same way a man can burn his clothes by scooping flames on his lap, we also suffer when we willingly and recklessly engage in wrong behaviour.
We cannot sin and remain unscathed and untouched. When we do, we grieve God, hurt ourselves, the people we love and we ruin our reputation and credibility. If we continue, we soon become numb to that inner voice within us. It's absolutely dangerous to flirt with things we know to be wrong. We are to avoid the very appearance of evil and we can, if we remain steadfast and rooted in God.
Thank you Lord for loving me. Help me to stay away from wrongdoing and not flirt with danger. I want to live for you, to serve you and be an example of goodness and purity. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
