Loneliness has the ability to consume and overwhelm us. We can be in a crowded room, out with friends or at home with our loved ones, but still feel that overwhelming sense of isolation. We feel empty and think that no one cares or understands. Many things may contribute to this feeling of loneliness. It could be as a result of losing a loved one, low self esteem, insecurities or the end of a relationship. Whatever the cause, there is need for concern when we remain in this state for a prolonged period.
There is no need for loneliness to consume us. We have God's promise to always be with us and He will never fail or abandon us. While we all need people in our lives, we cannot be dependent on them for our happiness. We need to draw close to God and wrap ourselves in His tender embrace, then consciously move beyond our feelings of despair and loneliness and reach out to others who may be in the same situation. As we get involved in helping others, our loneliness eases and our desire for life returns.
Thank you Lord for always being with me. There are times when I feel so disconnected from life as loneliness engulfs me, but I know that You will never leave me. Help me to look beyond myself and get involved in ministering to those around me. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
