If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

As children of God, if we desire to grow spiritually and emotionally, we must be willing to receive discipline and correction. As parents, we begin to discipline our children at an early age, setting up rules, guidelines and boundaries and implementing consequences for breaking rules. When we fail to do this, delinquency can set in. Discipline and correction work hand in hand, because when rules are broken, the process of correction begins. A disciplined life serves us well and is usually evident in everything we do. We live an ordered life, obey rules and stay on the straight and narrow path.

God's desire is for us to live purpose filled lives and correcting us when we deviate is His way of keeping us on track, but we must be willing to receive it. Discipline and correction must be done with love and compassion and the sole purpose should be to produce righteous and holy living and implement change. It should never be done to belittle or humiliate someone. When we accept discipline and correction, we are able to thrive in every area of our lives.

Thank you Lord for Your discipline and correction. Let me never reject discipline as I only end up harming myself and help me to listen and heed any godly correction. I know it's only to help me become the person You want me to be. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
