Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Colossians 4:2
NLT Bible
Prayer is our personal connection to God, who is always available to listen to us. We don't have to stand in line or make an appointment to speak to Him. All that's needed is to come to Him and share our deepest thoughts, concerns, cares and also our praise and worship. This verse urges us to be devoted to prayer. There are many people who are devoted to daily exercise and never let anything deter them from it. This should be our attitude to prayer. If we love God, we want to spend time in His Presence, to enter into a deeper and more intimate relationship with Him. In fact, we should yearn to be in constant communication with Him, not just when things are amiss in our lives.
Prayer must be our priority and in addition to being devoted to it, we must have an alert mind and a thankful heart. Many of us are guilty of having wandering minds when we are in prayer. Suddenly so many distractions creep in and we lose our focus. We need to centre our thoughts on The Lord and always remember to praise and thank him for His awesome goodness and numerous blessings. There are many who are dismissive and nonchalant about prayer, but prayer is a privilege. It's meeting with our Heavenly Father who loves and cares for us, wants to bless, strengthen, guide and direct us. Prayer changes things and draws us closer to God.
Thank you Lord for the privilege of being able to come to you in prayer. It's during these times that I'm strengthened and edified. I need Your guidance and direction and I thank you for answered prayer. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
