What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say You have faith but don't show it by your actions?
James 2:14
NLT Bible
Genuine faith must be accompanied by good deeds. As followers of God, we are identified by the profession of our faith and actions. They work hand in hand. Faith is not passive but is alive and active in the things we say and do, in the compassionate and sensitive way we interact with others and by the kind and thoughtful things we do to lighten someone's load. Without the evidence of good works, our profession of faith comes across as meaningless words and is simply an empty and hollow witness to those around us.
We cannot tell people about our faith and how much God loves them and then ignore their needs. We have to 'live our faith'. This means that good deeds are an integral part of our lives and opportunities to show 'tangible' faith are all around us. We can feed the hungry, give to the poor, help a single mother trying to make ends meet, give of our time to someone who has just lost a loved one or help an elderly person with a difficult task. The range of doing good deeds is endless and we just need to listen and open our eyes to the cries of those around us. Our declaration of faith must be matched by our good deeds and our reason is simply to show the love of Jesus.
Thank you Lord for Your love. Help me to show that love to those around me through my kind words and good deeds. Lord, may I never ignore the needs of anyone, but always do whatever I can to ease their burdens. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
