The message in this verse is straightforward. We are to live quiet lives, mind our own business and work diligently with our hands. Right away we realize that the world would be a better place if we all heeded this advice. A tranquil and peaceful life means that we try to get along with others and avoid conflict and turmoil. This is not always easy, because people can 'rub us the wrong way' and be mean and unkind, but we should always strive for peace. Quietness also allows us to enter into a closer and deeper relationship with God. We are also cautioned to mind our own business and not meddle into the affairs of others, as this usually leads to irreparable problems.
The need to work hard is emphasized and this allows us to be financially independent, able to provide for ourselves and share with others. When we live this way, we gain the respect of everyone. Too many people tarnish their witness for God by living excessively, always being in conflict with someone, meddling in people's affairs and not wanting to work. So many problems can be avoided if we diligently obey these commands from Almighty God. Our lives will be transformed and we will be living in a manner that's honourable, pleasing and acceptable to God.
Thank you Lord for your Word. Help me to live a quiet life, to refrain from meddling into the lives of others, to work hard and to honour you in all I do. Let my life be an example to those around me. I love you Jesus. Amen!
