But The Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details. There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her."
Luke 10:41-42
NLT Bible
Many of us have a 'Martha mentality' and can identify with her. We are the ones who are caught up in a hectic lifestyle, being busy all the time. We run around organizing, directing, serving, doing good things for everyone, but sadly enough, we sometimes miss out on the most important thing........time with God. This is exactly what happened when Jesus visited Martha and her sister, Mary. Martha was preoccupied and distracted with serving and taking care of everything, while Mary was simply content to sit and fellowship with Jesus.
Some of us who identify with Martha try to justify being busy because we rationalize that we're serving others, doing what needs to be done and it's all for God. However, there must be balance. We cannot allow busyness to keep us from spending time with God. This is what He desires most of all and it's what we need to grow in our walk with Him. Intimacy with Jesus has to be our ultimate priority and we need to find the balance between being constantly busy like Martha or simply being content to spend time with Jesus like Mary. Ultimately, we must recognize that time spent with God restores, renews and refreshes us and gives us the strength and energy to effectively serve Him.
Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness. Lord, may I always put you first in my life. Let me not get caught up in doing things and being so busy that I neglect spending time in fellowship and communion with You. Help me to find the balance that I need in my life. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
