"Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation."
Luke 22:46
NLT Bible
Jesus was on the Mount of Olives praying by Himself and in this verse, He cautions His disciples to get up from their sleep and pray. He knew that they were going to be tempted in the days ahead and that they needed to be equipped with strength and power to resist. Sadly, they could not stay awake to pray and ultimately succumbed to temptation. In the same way, we as children of God need to make prayer a priority if we want to resist temptation. We must strive to be alert and vigilant in prayer at all times.
We need to recognize that the devil is sly and cunning and will go to great lengths to keep us from praying and seeking God. It's quite amazing, that so many times we become tired, sleepy and distracted as soon as we begin to pray. We have to keep ourselves mentally and physically alert as we commune and fellowship with God. It's the only way we can be armed with strength, courage and determination to resist any temptation that will come our way. We cannot neglect prayer, because as soon as we do, we become targets for the devil and we 'slip up' and yield to temptation.
Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness. May I always be vigilant and alert in prayer. Let me never be too busy to fellowship with You. I need Your power and strength to resist the temptations that come my way. I love you Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
