"Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant."
Mark 10:43
NLT Bible
Many people think that being a leader involves 'lording' it over others and literally pulling rank. ....far from it. In this verse, Jesus is saying that if we want to be leaders, we must be servants. This may be hard for some to swallow, but it's what we need to do if we want to be respected as leaders. It means that we may have to roll up our sleeves and help when the need arises. It also means that anything we want someone to do, we ourselves would willingly do it too, regardless of how menial or time consuming it may seem. Jesus demonstrated His servant's heart when He washed the feet of His disciples. If our Lord did this, so can we.
As leaders, we have to serve one another graciously, without complaining and murmuring. We need to serve willingly, be part of the team and develop a mindset to whatever it takes to get the job done. We need to praise people, to lift them up, to let them know that what they are doing matters. Good leaders never abuse the authority they have been entrusted with. We must develop an attitude of genuine servanthood if we want to be exemplary leaders. This is the sign of true greatness.
Thank you Lord for showing us how to serve. Help me to have a servant's heart, to always be willing to help, to never lord it over others. Let me be a leader who leads by example. With Your help, I can. I love you Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
