Bible Verse for January 4th.
To learn, you must receive discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.
Proverbs 12:1
New Living Translation Bible
Most of us dislike being corrected. When someone tells us that we've done something
wrong, we become defensive, try to validate our actions even though we know what
they're saying is right. If we want to learn, to grow and succeed in life, we have to be
willing to accept discipline and correction. Parents discipline and chastise their children
because they love them and want only the best for them. Likewise when someone
corrects us, we need to embrace it and learn from it, because that person cares about us
and wants us to succeed.
Proverbs 25:11-12 tells us that timely advice and valid criticism is good and we should be
receptive to it. When we refuse to be corrected, we are saying that we know it all and our
way is the right way and then, we simply continue on our own path, ignoring all advice
and correction. We need to have a teachable spirit and learn from what is being said to us.
It's worth mentioning that when correction is done with love, kindness and compassion,
it's easier to receive. As we travel along life's pathway, we will inevitably do things that
are wrong or can be done differently and we must be open to advice and instruction. This
shows our maturity as children of God and causes us to grow and become wiser.
Thank You Lord for guiding and directing me. Help me to be receptive to discipline and
correction from others. Let me not be 'puffed up', thinking that I know it all and need no
advice from anyone. Help me to have a teachable spirit, Lord Jesus. I love You. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
