“But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High”.

Luke 1:30-32  NIV Bible

The Christmas season is here again, and many people are caught up in a whirlwind of related activities. A great amount of time is spent on shopping, baking, attending parties and other related events. However, this sometimes comes at the expense of focusing on the true meaning of Christmas… the birth of Jesus. We need to embrace this message of Christmas and build our celebrations and traditions around it.

Our Saviour was born in a lowly manger, and this is what we celebrate. It is also a time of love, peace and goodwill towards all men, but this sometimes seem to be lost amid all these activities. We should also think of those who are in need, lonely or hurting and let our actions reflect the kindness and generosity that Christ would want us to show. We need to remember that JESUS is the reason for this beautiful season and strive to honour Him in everything we do.

Thank you, Lord, for sending Your Son, Jesus! May my heart, mind and actions reflect the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our Saviour! I love you, Jesus. Amen!

Be Blessed!

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavour? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless."

Matthew 5:13 NLT Bible

In this verse, Jesus describes His followers as the salt of the earth. This is such an apt description because salt is necessary for so many things. It is used to preserve things, which if left alone, would otherwise rot and decay. As salt, we are to preserve all that is good, holy and righteous in our lives and impact those around us to do the same. Salt also adds flavour and enhances anything it is added to. Without it, things simply taste flat and unappetizing. In the same way, as believers, we are to stand out as having something different and desirable that people would want. Our words and actions should be filled with love, compassion, mercy, gentleness and our lives should reflect and radiate Christ. People should be affected because they've spent time with us, should want what we have and be drawn to Christ because of us.

Just as salt is rubbed in to penetrate, so too, the way we live should rub off on those around us and bring change into their lives. We cannot allow the lifestyles and values of unbelievers to creep into our lives. When salt loses its flavour and potency, it is useless and in the same way, we run the risk of undermining our testimony if we lose our love and passion for God. If Jesus lives in our hearts, it must be evident in the way our lives affect others. We have to stand out for Christ and make a difference.

Thank you, Lord, for being my Saviour. You have said that we are the salt of the earth and my desire is to preserve all that is good and holy, to let my life influence those around me and to be an effective witness for you. I love you! Jesus. Amen!

Be Blessed!

Proverbs 3:1-6 NLT

1. My child, never forget the things I have taught you.

Store my commands in your heart.

2. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying.

3. Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!

Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.

4. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

5. Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

6. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

A prudent person sees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Proverbs 22:3 NLT Bible

Our actions have consequences! If we do good things, we are rewarded with positive results and if we act impulsively and disobey God, then we suffer the consequences of our actions. We have the Word of God as our handbook for living, but sometimes we break God's laws, and this results in pain and heartache for all. As children of God, we know when we are doing something that is contrary to the Word of God, but many are unable to resist the temptation in front of them and succumb to sinful desires. When this happens, we pay the price and suffer dire consequences. Relationships are destroyed, trust and respect are lost, misery and heartache ensue, sometimes families are torn apart and, in some instances, are never restored.

Acting prudently means that we walk away when we are tempted to do wrong, such as lying, cheating, stealing, lusting, sexual immorality, gossiping, and anything else that displeases God. We need to make sure that before we do something, we stop and think if it's right, if it will hurt someone, but most of all if it will displease God. Sin separates us from God, but if we come humbly before Him and ask for forgiveness, He forgives us. This does not remove the consequences of our actions, but with God's help, we can learn from our mistakes and try to rebuild what we destroyed.

Thank you, Lord, for dying for my sins. Help me to obey Your Word, to avoid doing things that are wrong, to walk away from the very appearance of evil. Let me be mindful of the consequences of my actions. Give me Your wisdom, Lord Jesus. Amen!

Be Blessed!

1 Chronicles 29:11-15 NLT

11. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O LORD, and this is Your kingdom. We adore You as the one who is over all things.

12. Wealth and honor come from You alone, for You rule over everything. Power and might are in Your hand, and at Your discretion people are made great and given strength.

13. O our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name!

14. But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to You? Everything we have has come from You, and we give You only what You first gave us!

15. We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace.
