Don't let the sun go down while
you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
Ephesians
4:26 NLT Bible
We all get angry at times, but
the key is to resolve it quickly and not allow it to fester. There are many
reasons why we may become angry, and sometimes it's justified, but it's how we
respond to the situation that really matters. We probably know of people who've
remained angry for days, not speaking to the person who supposedly upset them.
This is certainly not pleasing to God and only ends up hurting everyone
involved. This verse clearly tells us that we are not to let the day end
without working out our differences in a loving and respectful manner.
Anger hurts us physically,
emotionally and spiritually. We can't function properly or worship God because
our hearts are filled with rage and hatred. Some people lose all self control
when angry and become abusive and violent and we all know of instances when
this resulted in tragedy. The reasons for becoming angry are
varied......stress, jealousy, 'deep rooted' problems, painful memories or
sometimes just having a difficult day at work.
We need to ask God for wisdom
to deal with situations in a calm and rational manner, practice self control,
think before speaking, walk away from confrontation and make amends to the ones
we've hurt as quickly as possible. Recognize that we will not
always agree, but we can disagree in an agreeable and loving manner. For many,
learning to control anger is ongoing, but we can be victorious as we seek help
from God and make a concerted effort to not allow it to control our behaviour
and treatment of others.
Thank
you, Lord, for loving me just as I am,
with all my flaws and shortcomings. Help me Lord to control my anger and to
treat people with the respect and kindness they deserve. I can't do it without
You. I surrender all to You! I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be
Blessed!
Lydia
