This is not good!" Moses'
father-in-law exclaimed. "You're going to wear yourself out - and the
people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself."
Exodus
18:17-18 NLT Bible
Many people today are suffering
from 'burnout', mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually drained from
the demands of life. Their days are filled with countless activities,
overloaded schedules and they try to juggle everything, believing that no one
else can do what they do. This is exactly what Moses thought. He was weary and
tired from settling every dispute that the Israelites brought to him and
believed it was what God wanted him to do.
Thankfully, his father-in-law
advised him to appoint qualified people to deal with minor problems and to only
bring him the difficult ones. Moses heeded this advice and life changed for
him. We may be busy doing good things, but sometimes it's to the detriment of
our physical and emotional health, family life and most of all, our
relationship with God. We need to prioritize our lives. Begin each day with
God, ask others for help, learn to delegate, make time for loved ones, for rest
and leisure. When we do this, we are able to enjoy life to the fullest and
experience the many blessings of God.
Thank
you, Lord, for godly counsel. I recognize
that I am not indispensable and that others can help me along the way. Help me
to lead a balanced life and to keep you at the centre of everything. I love
you, Jesus. Amen!
Be
Blessed!
Lydia
