You must be compassionate, just as
Your Father is compassionate.
Luke 6:36
NLT Bible
We all know people who are always
reaching out, showing genuine care, compassion and concern for those who are
hurting or going through difficult times. They, themselves may be suffering,
enduring unimaginable pain, but yet, they are able to minister to others who
are struggling. Many of us cannot do this. We get caught up in our own
circumstances and seem unable to focus on anything else. Our heavenly Father is
kind and compassionate and this verse challenges us to be the same.
Reaching out to others, despite our
personal challenges is essential. It comes from a heart that loves and cares
about people. As we extend a listening ear, a few encouraging words or a kind
deed, our focus shifts from what we are going through and somehow our
circumstances don't consume and overwhelm us. In fact, they seem to improve as
we help someone in need. All around us, people are hurting and suffering from a
multitude of problems. As believers, we have to care. Our love for God must
cause us to empathize and show genuine concern in tangible ways. It may mean
stretching ourselves, moving out of our comfort zone and seeing beyond our
needs to the needs of others. Loving God means that we cannot be indifferent
and untouched by the pain and suffering of those around us.
Thank you, Lord, for Your compassion.
Help me to empathize and show compassion to those around me, to be concerned
about what they are going through and take my eyes off my circumstances. Let my
words and actions ease another's burden. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
