The human spirit can endure a
sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit?
Proverbs
18:14 NLT Bible
We may be able to endure
sickness, but when our spirits are crushed, it proves to be much more difficult
than our actual physical ailments. Many of us know people who may be terminally
ill, but somehow, they radiate peace and inner
joy. This is not so with those whose spirits are bruised, crushed and broken.
People in this state feel unloved and unwanted and life has no real meaning.
They simply exist and seem unable to lift themselves out of the slump. Many
things contribute to broken and bruised spirits. Abuse, broken relationships,
rejection, loneliness, betrayal, negative words from someone, loss of a loved
one and in some cases mental imbalances.
We have a responsibility to
reach out to those who are emotionally wounded and hurting. We may not
understand the reason or the depth of their pain, but we must help. Prayer is
imperative, but we also need to show we love and care in tangible and meaningful
ways, by simply being there to listen, to uplift, to comfort and to assist in
any way we can. God alone can heal crushed and broken spirits and even in our
anguished state, He is with us. With His help, sadness and gloom will be
replaced with joy and slowly but surely, the sun will come shining through.
Thank
you, Lord, for always being with me. When
I'm overwhelmed and my spirit is crushed and bruised, You reach out to me with
love and comfort. In the same way, help me to reach out to others who are
broken and hurting. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be
Blessed!
Lydia
