No discipline is enjoyable
while it is happening-it's painful! But afterward, there will be a peaceful
harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
Hebrews 12:11 NLT Bible
Discipline is often a
bitter pill to swallow, but it's necessary if we are to develop and grow into
mature adults. As children, we were disciplined by parents and teachers alike,
because it was necessary in helping us succeed and achieve our goals. As believers,
discipline is critical in our walk with God. Left to our own devices, we can
sometimes engage in wrong and unproductive activities that can stunt our
relationship with God and so, in His infinite wisdom, He has to chasten,
correct and discipline us.
Discipline is never easy,
but it's necessary because God wants to see us living purpose filled and godly
lives. It can be long and painful, but it reels us back in to where He wants us
to be, causes us to refocus on what really matters and helps us to grow
spiritually. God can discipline us in different ways. Sometimes He allows us to
experience tough situations where we are stretched to the limit, but through
it, He prunes and refines us so that we become more like Him. Other times, God
uses His Word or the counsel of godly people to chasten us. Regardless of how
we are disciplined, we must recognize that it's because we are God's children,
and He loves us. Our job is to accept being disciplined, learn from it and
purpose in our hearts to live holy, pleasing and righteous lives.
Thank you, Lord for Your
discipline. Help me to live as You would have me and when I stumble, may I
always accept Your chastening and purpose to stay on the right path. I love
you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
