Avoid worthless, foolish talk, that only leads
to more godless behaviour.
2 Timothy 2:16 NLT Bible
In the Word of God, we are admonished not to
engage in foolish talk, because it only causes harm to others, to ourselves and
leads to ungodly behaviour. Many of us do it anyway. We participate in
conversations that are irreverent, demeaning and offensive to others. We may
unwittingly engage in gossip, spreading rumours about people that are not true.
Many may see nothing wrong in making 'off colour' jokes with sexual overtones.
Profanity has suddenly become the norm for many and using abbreviations to swear
on social media is now commonplace. There's no value in speaking foolishly and
it's simply a waste of valuable time and energy that can be used to be of
service to God and man.
We should realize that our thoughts become
words and then our words influence our actions. If we persist in speaking
foolishly and in a careless manner, then our behaviour is impacted in a
negative and ungodly way. Our 'talk' should be edifying, uplifting and filled
with truth, love and grace. When we speak, people should feel enlightened and
not feel 'bashed and beaten up'. As children of God, we must make Jesus the
focus of our lives and ask Him to take control of our words and our actions.
Thank You Lord for Your love. I pray that my
words will always be acceptable to you and that people would be edified and
blessed by what I say. Help me to never belittle or offend anyone by speaking
carelessly and let me never be boastful or puffed up. I love You Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
