It is better to say
nothing than to make a promise and not keep it.
Ecclesiastes 5:5 NLT Bible
Many of us
are guilty of making promises to people and not following through with it and
we can sometimes be very nonchalant about it. We may promise to call someone,
to visit, to help with something and then we don't. Someone may be sick, in the
midst of a trial and we vow to pray for them and then it slips our mind and we
end up not doing it. God has promised us many things and we know that we can
always rely on Him to keep them. He is our example and if He is faithful to
keep His word, then we must too.
Broken
promises should not be taken lightly and we should not make them carelessly if
we know we cannot keep them, as it's our obligation to honour our word. When we
stay true to our word, people view us as honest and trustworthy. God holds us
accountable for the promises we've made and it is better to say nothing than to
promise and then break it. Sometimes keeping a promise might prove to be
difficult, uncomfortable and may encroach on our free time, but God expects us
to honour our commitment.
Thank you
Lord for Your promises. Help me to be a person of honour and integrity, to be
true to my word, regardless of how difficult it may be. Let my life be an
example to those with whom I come in contact. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
