Pay
attention to the experience of our ancestors. For we were born but yesterday
and know nothing.
Job 8:8-9
NLT Bible
In many
cultures, the elderly are esteemed and revered, but sadly in others it seems to
be lacking. So many seniors are just left alone to their own devices, lost in
their thoughts, with no interaction from younger people. The elderly are a
wealth of knowledge and there's so much we can learn from them, if we would only
invest the time to be with them. Throughout the Bible, we are told to honour
and respect our elders and an integral part of this is to listen, pay attention
to what they have to say and heed their advice.
They have
experienced a lot over the course of their lives and have so much to impart.
Many of them have lived through wars, survived financial hardships and know
firsthand about being content with little. They have basically dealt with
everything we experience today......problems with marriage, difficulties with
children, inequalities and insecurities. Their faith was tested and through it
all, they remained steadfast and firm in their trust for God. We can avoid so
many pitfalls by embracing their words of wisdom and as we are do this, we are
also showing love for our elders, making them feel wanted and valued and God is
pleased with us.
Thank you
Lord for my elders. Help me to always honour and respect them. I recognize that
they have so much to share. Let me be willing to listen and learn from them and
to love and value them. I love you Lord. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
