We cannot claim to love God if we are oblivious to the cries and needs of those around us. This verse is specific as to what we must do. Firstly we have to be good, to strive for it in everything we do. Our lives should reflect the goodness of God. Then we are to uphold God's standard of fairness. All people need to be treated with respect and dignity. Love, understanding, mercy, kindness and compassion should resonate within us. We have to look out for the welfare of others and be a voice for those who cannot defend themselves.

Opportunities for ministry abound in our backyard! There are many who have lost a spouse and now feel lost, alone, unloved and in need of emotional and physical help to get through the difficult times. Many children are orphaned, with no one to care for them and are even subjected to abuse and neglect from the hands of those who were meant to love and protect them. As children of God, we cannot sit idly by and expect someone else to care and minister. We have to step into that gap, open our hearts and extend our hands to those who are in dire need of our help. This is God's mandate to us and is what loving Him is all about.

Thank you Lord for the love and compassion You show to me. Help me to do the same for others, to be concerned about their welfare and to show it in tangible ways. I pray that my love for you will be evident in My words and my deeds. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
