SUNDAY INSPIRATION and PRAYER
May 22, 2022
Her sister,
Mary, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to what He taught, but Martha was
distracted by the big dinner she was preparing.
Luke 10:39-40
NLT Bible
There's a disconnect among people that's startlingly disturbing!
No one seems to be listening or paying attention to what others are saying as
people are becoming more and more connected and attached to their mobile
devices, video games and other distractions and disconnected to those who
should matter the most in their lives. People simply want to be heard and
validated, to seek advice, to share, to unburden themselves and have us listen
to them with our undivided attention and be interested in what they are saying.
Jesus was
at the home of Martha and Mary and this verse tells us that Mary sat at His
feet, listening to Him with rapt attention, while Martha was distracted with
dinner preparations. What Jesus really wanted was for both of them to listen.
Many of us are like Martha, too busy with our personal stuff and we don't pay
attention to what is being said to us. We can't see the emotion behind the
words, because we have allowed ourselves to become detached from others, yet we
remain constantly connected to our 'own stuff'. We must show people that they
matter and listening attentively is one way to show how much we care. It's what
God expects of us.
Thank you Lord for always listening to me. Help me to be a good
listener, to give my undivided attention, to be interested in what others are
saying and to let them know I understand and value their feelings and opinions.
I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
