“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.”

Christmas is just a few weeks away and many of us are caught up in a whirl of activities. The decorations are up, beautiful lights are everywhere and Christmas music fills the air. We should be happy and enjoying it all, but for many, that’s not the case. Our time and energies are centred around baking, shopping and other related events, and all too often, we are frazzled and weary after all our activities and have no time to centre our thoughts and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. 

We need to embrace the message of Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus and build our traditions and celebrations around it. Our Saviour was born in a lowly manger and this is what we celebrate. It’s also a time of peace and goodwill towards all men, but this seems lost amidst all the festivities. For many, this has been a tough year, both emotionally and financially, most of it due to an unabating pandemic. We need to do our part and reach out to those who are in need, lonely or hurting and let our actions reflect the kindness and generosity that Christ would want us to show. We need to remember that JESUS is the reason for this beautiful Christmas season and strive to honour Him in everything we do! 

Thank you Lord for sending Your Son, Jesus! May my heart and mind be centred on what Christmas really means…the birth of our Saviour, Jesus. Help me not to  be caught up in anything that would detract from the real meaning of Christmas. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
