In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.
Psalms 4:8
NLT Bible
Sleep can be elusive for many of us and we lie awake at nights with a multitude of thoughts and concerns swirling around in our minds. We find ourselves being anxious and terrified, listening to every sound and yearning for morning to come. We rehash the day's events and think about all that's going to happen on the next day. Many of us worry about our children, finances, health, jobs and now the pandemic and all its ramifications. Many people have a never ending list of worries and concerns. In this verse, danger was present all around David, but his trust was in God and he could go to sleep, secure in the knowledge that He was with him.
There's no need for us to be afraid of going to sleep. God loves us and He is in control. Granted, our concerns may be valid, but we need to appropriate this promise that God has given us. He has promised us safe, restful and peaceful sleep. We also need to recognize that some people generally have difficulty sleeping while others are 'light sleepers'. However, while lying awake, they can pray and worship God and eventually will find themselves drifting off to sleep. We need to totally surrender everything in our lives to Him. As we retire for the night, we are to commit all our cares and concerns to God and allow His peace to permeate our hearts and minds. Then we can close our eyes and sleep in peace and tranquillity.
Thank you Lord for Your assurance of divine protection. Knowing this, I can close my eyes and go to sleep because You will keep me safe and allow me to sleep in peace. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
