What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don't show it by your actions?
James 2:14
NLT Bible
Genuine faith must be accompanied by good deeds. As believers, we are identified by our profession of faith in God and our actions. They work hand in hand. Faith is not passive but is alive and active in the things we say and do. It's evident in the sensitive and compassionate way we interact with others and in the kind and thoughtful things we do for each other, without any thought of recognition or praise. Without this, our profession of faith comes across as meaningless words and our witness for God as hollow and empty.
We have to 'live our faith'. This means that good deeds and actions must be an integral part of our lives. We cannot speak about the love of God to others and then ignore their needs. Especially during this time, opportunities abound to show tangible evidence of our faith in God. We can feed the hungry, give to those in need, help a single mom who's struggling, assist an elderly person with a difficult task or reach out to someone who's dealing with depression or grief. The scope of doing good deeds is endless and we need to be attuned to the needs of those around us. We can be eloquent about our love and faith in God, but unless it's accompanied by good deeds, it is simply useless and ends up being a hindrance to our witness. Our declaration of faith must be matched by our actions.
Thank you Lord for loving me. Help me to show my faith in tangible ways to all those around me. Let my life be a living testimony for You. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
