Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart.

Proverbs 17:3

Fire is used to test the purity of silver and gold and the impurities and imperfections show up when heated. When these are removed, they can then be used to create beautiful things. Similarly, God tests our hearts, subjecting us to different experiences that test our obedience and faith in Him. During these times of testing, He refines, moulds and shapes us to be all that He wants us to be.

These times of testing are not easy. We are sometimes stretched to the limit and we feel uncomfortable and ill equipped to deal with the severity and pressure of it all. However, it's during this time we get rid of the impurities within us. We build character and let go of pride, selfishness, self absorption and anything else that would negatively impact our relationship with God. Fire tests the purity of gold and silver and makes them usable and God tests our hearts and refines and purifies us.

Thank you Lord for testing my heart. It's painful and difficult at times, but I am a better person because of it. Purify my heart and make me all that You want me to be. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
