Then He said, "Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand."
Mark 4:9
NLT Bible
This is what Jesus said to the people after telling them a parable and it also underscores the importance of listening to others and understanding their feelings. Many of us have been around people where one person dominated the conversation, not listening to anyone else or even paying attention to what they were saying. As children of God, it is important that we learn to listen, being intent and focused on what someone is saying without interjecting our own thoughts and opinions.
To be good listeners, we must be attentive, interested and non judgemental. People must know that we care and understand their opinions, pain and struggles. They also need to know that they are loved and valued and even though things are difficult, brighter days are ahead. So many times, we may be dismissive of what someone is saying and quickly try to offer solutions to whatever they're facing, when all that is needed is to be interested, to care, to listen and to empathize. Many times we are quick to speak, but in His Word, we are cautioned to be slow to speak and quick to listen. After listening, we can offer words of encouragement and hope, a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on and most of all the fact that Jesus loves and cares for them.
Thank you Lord for always listening to me. Help me to be a good listener, to never be disinterested, to care and empathize with what someone is facing, but most of all to let them know that You love and care for them. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
Lydia
