I lift my hands to You in prayer. I thirst for You as parched land thirsts for rain.
Psalm 143:6
NLT Bible
This verse compares our yearning for God as parched land thirsting for rain, but do we truly experience this kind of thirst for God? For many of us, this intense desire was the norm during the early years of our relationship with Jesus Christ. However, it may have waned over time and we lost our deep yearning for Him. Now, we find ourselves being complacent, satisfied with fellowshipping with God only when we go to church and we neglect meeting with Him on a daily basis. We've grown lukewarm and need to experience that thirst for God again. Spending time with God on a continual basis is the only way we can grow spiritually.
When God is the most important person in our lives, we long to spend time in His Presence, to worship and praise Him, to bring our cares to Him and to meditate on His Word. It's as if we can't get enough of Him. We cannot allow our daily activities to consume us and affect our relationship with God. We may have to reschedule our day, get up early to spend time in prayer and the Word, but it will ultimately prove to be the most rewarding thing we can do. God has promised to fill us to overflowing when we thirst for Him.
Thank you Lord for quenching my thirst. I need You more and more each day. Without You, I am lost, adrift at sea. I yearn to be in Your Presence, to spend time in fellowship with You. May I never let anything or anyone keep me from doing this. I love you, Jesus. Amen!
Be Blessed!
