Love one another with genuine affection, and take delight in honouring each other.

Throughout the Bible, we are told to love and honour each other and this should be evident in the way we treat everyone, especially our loved ones. It's somewhat ironic though, that we can treat strangers with courtesy, respect and kindness and yet at times, be rude, disrespectful, negative and indifferent to the ones we love the most.

We've all witnessed others opening doors for strangers, complimenting a colleague, smiling at people on the street, yet failing to do the same for family, never having a kind word, a smile or a compliment for them. This may be the result of taking our loved ones for granted, assuming that they'll always be around, but we need to value and appreciate them. When we fail to do this, we are not living as God wants us to live and our loved ones end up feeling neglected and unappreciated. In the days ahead, we need to make a concerted effort to show genuine love and affection to those close to us, to let them know how much they matter to us through our words and actions. They deserve our very best.

Thank you Lord for my loved ones. Help me to always love and honour them, to be kind and respectful, to treat them as they deserve to be treated. Let me never take them for granted and always show them how much they mean to me. I love you Jesus. Amen!
